Bedrock is always looking for interesting ways to interact with its artists, encourage creativity and engage in new ways with its global audience. In July 2020 they teamed up with one their most consistent and creative producers, Stelios Vassiloudis, to launch the ‘Rust’ Remix Competition on Bandcamp. When the competition closed at the end of August, Stelios and John Digweed diligently started the careful 3-month process of listening to the hundreds of entries and selecting a shortlist of the best examples of creative excellence. Now, as a fitting finale to this long and eventful year, the winning and runner up entries are unveiled, alongside the stunning original version.

Øostil is an anonymous collaborative project inspired by the finest melodic techno. Their minimalist and organic sound evokes deep personal emotions, pushing boundaries and journeying into the future. For their remix competition entry they crossed the musical horizon to team up with Mexico City’s Heîk. Spotters out there will already have noted that this combination has previously released quality music on BOg’s Atlant label and Renaissance (including a beauteous remix for BLANCah), quickly establishing their pedigree within the most exciting new artists within the global scene. The deeply atmospheric and intricately woven, emotive ‘Øostil & Heîk Remix’ of ‘Rust’ is another impeccable example of their supreme talents, earning a well-deserved runner up slot.

Irish-born, Spanish-based electronica DJ/Producer, GuyRo is steadily building his own distinct reputation. Avoiding easy pigeonholing into a singular style or tempo, GuyRo traverses the spectrum of dance music, maintaining a fluid and free artistic ethos as explores uncharted areas and refines his journeys into sound. His ‘GuyRo Guitarapella’ is a beautifully melancholic, stripped back, emotional ride, and a rightfully worthy winner of the ‘Rust’ Remix Competition.

It's such a gem, this release! - "Swarm" almost overwhelms me with the abundance of details, but I find the kick that constantly changes to the new, faster tempo and the extremely slowly developing siren synth sound completely lifted. For my taste, opposites come together as skillfully as I was looking for. "Reflect" and "Spike" run into similar open doors to me and I will have a lot of fun listening to them. For sure!
